Filips Finder Scripts 1.0 is a collection of AppleScripts designed to simplify the work in Finder. They provide a simple way to change type and creator on files, add suffixes to file names, or remove suffixes from file names. And, they easily let you create an alias, and choose where it should be placed, without the word "alias" added to the file name. Also, the scripts let you to create a new and empty suitcase file, move items to the desktop folder, or to the Trashcan, etc...
How do I run them?
All scripts support drag-and-drop. Just drag a file, or a selection of multiple files, to the applications symbol, and off you go. You can, if you want to, open all the applications by double-clicking on them as well. And, of course, you can run all the scripts from the Apple Menu.
System Requirements
To run the scripts, AppleScript™ must be installed on your computor. AppleScript™ is supported by System 7 or greater, and is included in System 7.5 or greater. The applications only call for Apples standard Scripting Additions, in order to make them more compatible. If you have Mark Alldritts Scripts Tools installed, you can change the command “Choose file” to “Choose several files” on all applications, enabling multiple file choices from the open dialog box.
The Scripts
DesktopIt
This script moves the selected objects to the desktop folder. It comes in handy when the desktop is covered with open windows, and is impossible to reach with the mouse.
TrashIt
A script that moves the selected objects to the Trashcan. It does not empty the Trash!
AliasMaker
Makes an alias to the selected file, and lets you decide where you want it! If you choose a different location than the original, “alias” is not added to the file name. (And why would anyone want an alias in the same folder as the original, where Finder normally would place it?)
If you have the Scripting Addition “Choose Files & Folders” installed, you can enable a feature that makes the script choose the desktop folder by default. Do like this: Open the script from within the Scripting editor, and remove the two “--” infront of the line: “Set default folder (path to desktop)”.
“Choose Files & Folders” is a part of Mark Alldritts Script Tools (latest version while writing 1.3.1).
SuitcaseMaker
This script works in two ways. If you double-click on the programs symbol, or open the program from the Apple Menu with nothing selected, it creates a new and empty Suitcase file. You are asked to specify a destination folder.
The script also works as a drag-and-drop application. If you have a number of individual fonts you can drop them on the programs symbol, thus creating a new suitcase file, and moving the individual fonts in to it. This function is also available from the Apple Menu. Just select any number of individual fonts, then start SuitcaseMaker from the Apple Menu. The selected fonts will now be moved to a new suitcase file. (The script must of course be present in the Apple Menu, either as an alias or placed in the AppleScripts Short Cut folder.)
Note: When you move fonts from a suitcase using Finders normal drag-and-drop technique, the Finder doesn’t always properly remove the fonts from the suitcase. You can become aware of this looking at the size of the ‘empty’ suitcase. This is a case when there is demand for a new and truly empty suitcase, something the Finder wouldn’t easily let you create.
SuffixIt
This script adds a suffix to the names of the selected files. The program handles multiple file selections, and in fact, it’s only useful in those cases.
UnSuffixIt
This script works the opposite way SuffixIt does. By default it search backwards after a “.” (a dot) in the file name, asking you if you want to remove the characters after the dot. E g, the file name “Read me first.txt” would cause the program to suggest “.txt” to be removed. If there is no dot in the file name, the application will ask if you want to remove the last four characters of the file name. Naturally, you can choose any suffix to be removed that you want. The script handles multiple file selections.
TypeCreator
This is a script that in a simpel way lets you change file type and file creator on selected files. You can do the same thing with ResEdit (among other programs), but this is a very convenient way to do it.
You can change files one by one, or all together. (If you select a folder, it’s direct content will be changed, but no subfolders.) You disable a field by leaving it blank, causing the program to neglect it. E.g. you can change the file creator on several files, all with different file types, by leaving the File type field blank.

Read-Me-Maker
This is a short cut for changing file type on text files. Plain text files becomes read-only files, and read-only files changes to plain text files. Just drop a text file on the program symbol, and it will be changed to the opposite text type. It handles multiple files, providing you with a simple way to create Read Me files. This is a ‘safe’ program; you will not be jeopardizing anything by using it.
Note: The Read-Me-Maker will also change the creator to Simple Text (ttxt), i. e. if you drop a text file edited with BBEdit on the script symbol, it will be converted to a Simple Text file.
Distribution
Filips Finder Scripts is freeware, but it is not public domain. You are entitled to use it, and to give it away to whom you want under the following conditions:
*you may only redistribute the whole script packet. This Read Me First file must be included!
*you may not, in any form, redistribute modified scripts
*you may not include the scripts in any other program packet without my approval
